Poilievre asks Carney to “actually answer” his questions in House of Commons as his birthday gift

Canadian Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre celebrated his birthday with an hour of heated exchanges in the House of Commons Wednesday, after demanding Prime Minister Mark Carney clarify whether Canada is in a recession or a “technical recession.” After wishing Poilievre a happy birthday, Carney joked that the Liberal party’s “little gift” for the opposition leader was that the economy – in the face of U.S. tariffs and global uncertainty – is seeing this country put in place the conditions for sustained prosperity. Before reiterating his question about the technical recession, Poilievre quipped that while he just turned 47 years old, he is actually “50 with inflation.” He went on to ask Carney to “actually answer” his questions in the House of Commons as a birthday gift. After roughly eight minutes of exchanges, the prime minister answered no further questions from Poilievre and for the remainder of question period, the birthday boy called Carney out for going “into hiding” and having his cabinet answer questions for him.
