Banggai Laut - Indonesia’s Best Jellyfish Lake (Sulawesi)

The Banggai adventure continues! In the second episode of my Banggai mini-series, I set out to explore Banggai Laut, or the Banggai Sea, venturing deeper into the beauty of Indonesia’s remote islands in Central Sulawesi. Joining me are my tour guide, Anto, along with our captain, Roy, and his co-captain, Fahri. Our journey begins with a stop at Oyama Beach, possibly the most breathtaking beach in Banggai, with crystal-clear water, pristine white sand, and swaying palm trees. We then arrive at Kia's Homestay, a well-known spot for visitors, where I get a taste of Sulawesi’s famous homemade spirit, Cap Tikus, and later enjoy local street food in Banggai City. We leave Kia’s Homestay and travel to an even more remote island called Bokan Island, where we uncover Mbuang Mbuang—a hidden gem and home to what could be Indonesia’s best jellyfish lake. Here, I get a firsthand look at how locals live on these islands, learning about their traditional, albeit risky, diving method using a compressor. We also explore other captivating sites around the island, experiencing both the natural beauty and rich culture of Banggai Laut.
