棄選的30名議員合共向157名議助發放了約940萬元獎金或花紅，一眾「好老闆」的豪氣舉動引起社會熱議，皆因公帑埋單。其中，馬逢國向捲入風化案的助理施駿興發放26.4萬元獎金，本身他月薪4.4萬元，即相當於其6個月薪金，形容是部分同事本身人工低所以用獎金補貼。
曾任多年立法會議員的行會成員湯家驊，向《香港01》憶述當年辭職離開議會，都是自掏荷包向4至5名長期服務的員工付遣散費，總數約50萬元，相當於議員5個月薪金，笑言原來現今議員有如此好安排，令人羡慕。他說，議員額外向助理發放高於法例規定的長期服務金水平，甚至合約沒規定的花紅，「係咪慷他人之慨呢？似乎錢多就所以......你應該明白到呢個係公帑，唔應該亂花公帑。」
