Supreme Court SIR Hearing: The Supreme Court has upheld the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process as valid, giving major relief to the Election Commission. The court stated that under Article 324 of the Constitution and the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Election Commission has full authority to carry out a special revision of the voter list. Following this decision, the SIR process may now be accelerated in 19 states. The court also clarified that for fair elections, it is essential that the voter list remains accurate and updated. Experts believe this will help curb fake voting and strengthen electoral transparency. This decision may have a significant impact on upcoming state assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
