In this video, I’m sharing what I’m doing in my garden and food forest this month—and one simple shift that completely changed how I approach my beds. Instead of spending hours weeding everything from last year, I’m layering right over it: cardboard → compost → mulch. This lets me: • Smother weeds without pulling them • Turn last year’s growth into nutrients instead of waste • Build healthier soil right where it already is • Hold moisture so I’m not constantly watering in summer It was one of those moments where it just clicked—I don’t have to fight the garden… I can work with it. I’m also going over planting, protecting brassicas before the cabbage butterflies show up, getting perennials and fruit trees in the ground, and setting things up now so summer feels easier instead of overwhelming.
