'John Wick-style shootings, Pokemon cards': Analyst says Philippine Senate in crisis | ABS-CBN News

Political analyst Ronald Llamas breaks down the present crisis in the Philippine Senate including the plunder charges against Senators Rodante Marcoleta, Jinggoy Estrada, Chiz Escudero and Joel Villanueva. Llamas said the crisis started as early as last year when the flood control scandal implicated several senators for allegedly pocketing millions of pesos in kickbacks. “Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng Senado na halos lahat may kaso o potential na kaso,” he said. The crisis exploded last May 11 when a coup reorganized the Senate leadership on the same day that the House of Representatives impeached Vice President Sara Duterte for a second year in a row. Since then, the Senate has made international headlines with one senator running away from NBI agents serving an arrest warrant, “John Wick-style shootings” in the Senate, a female senator crying “MMK-style” and a Senate President giving an explanation using Pokemon cards, Llamas said. He said the Senate “drama” has not stopped, with one majority senator who is facing plunder charges, offering to switch sides but only if he becomes Senate President.
