An Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), commonly known as a peacock, roaming through the grounds of Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi. The Indian Peafowl is native to the Indian subcontinent and is the national bird of India. The male bird is recognizable by its iridescent blue neck, metallic plumage, and long ornamental tail train marked with eye-like patterns known as ocelli. Peafowl are omnivorous birds that feed on seeds, grains, insects, fruits, and small reptiles in natural and semi-natural habitats. The surrounding orchard vegetation provides suitable cover and foraging space for the species.
