“Ukraine must be very precise,” Polish defence minister says after Baltic region drone incursions

With sporadic instances of long-range drones straying into the airspace of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, Ukraine has apologized on several occasions to the affected Baltic states, blaming Russian jamming capabilities on the incidents. Drones rely on satellite-based navigation systems that are often prone to “disturbances, jamming” and “spoofing,” Hans Liwang, a drone expert from the Swedish Defence University said on Thursday, backing Ukraine’s claims. On spoofing, Liwang said, “[It] means that you can send the signal that will make the system think that it is somewhere else. We know that Russia has those kinds of equipment, they use it over Russia all the time in order to protect themselves.” While Kyiv officials have not shown evidence Russia is behind the incursions, NATO and its impacted nations — as strong supporters of Ukraine — have blamed the incursions on Moscow. “This is to be expected, that Russia will always try to exploit such actions,” Polish Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on the matter. “We must be very precise here.
