Video Description
The European Union has fined the online shopping platform Temu more than $300 million for allowing unsafe and faulty products to be sold on its website. It says an investigation found a “very high percentage” of the electronic device chargers failed basic safety tests, and a “high percentage” of baby toys posed safety risks. “Dangerous toys for kids, small electronics without proper labels, clothes and jewelry containing harmful chemicals, to name just a few.” European Commission Spokesperson Thomas Regnier said. In a statement, Temu said it “engaged constructively with the commission throughout the process and has since taken further steps to strengthen risk assessment, platform governance, and user protection,” adding that it is “reviewing the decision carefully and considering all available options.” As Redmond Shannon reports, it's raising more questions about the standard of products available on sites like Temu.
