An Antlion Larva, commonly known as a doodlebug, is seen digging a conical pit trap in loose soil or sand. The small predatory larva moves backwards beneath the surface while using its body and jaws to flick sand outward, gradually forming a funnel-shaped hole designed to trap ants and other small insects. Antlion larvae are well known for creating these characteristic pits, where unsuspecting prey slips down the loose sandy walls toward the hidden predator waiting at the bottom.
