2 arrested after Toronto police seize more than $3.5M worth of counterfeit sports merchandise

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has concluded a fraud investigation that led to the largest seizure of counterfeit soccer jerseys in Canadian history. TPS Deputy Chief Robert Johnson detailed the bust in a Monday press conference, revealing two men were arrested after the bust of a Mississauga warehouse holding more than $3.5 million worth of fraudulent sports merchandise. The suspects, 41-year-old Ramy Jaber and 62-year-old Walid Sarhan, were supplying counterfeit products – purporting to be actual name-brand products like FIFA, Nike, Adidas, and Puma – to retail stores. Jaber and Sarhan are facing four fraud-related charges each, including fraud over $5,000 and pass off wares or services with intent to deceive or defraud. The results of this fraud investigation come less than two weeks ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which is being held across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico this year.
