Video Description
We need to lock a bearing sleeve into a support carrier for a torque convertor out of a Cat 637 Scraper so we’re making the tool do it! The job could not move forward without a rolling tool that could deform the sleeve into the groove in the carrier and nothing in the shop or on a shelf would do it. We start by machining the bar for the tool on the lathe using an off cut of chrome bar. Turning the outside, parting to length and machining the end to suit the ball bearing. Then the bar goes over to the milling machine where we cut two flats so it can be clamped into the tool post on the lathe. Next up is the roller that will form the groove. We use the same off cut chrome bar again. We drill and precision bore the inside to suit the bearing then machine the outside to the forming profile before parting it off and assembling the complete tool together. Once the tool is finished we press the new bearing sleeve into the support carrier, set it up in the lathe and use our new tool to roll the sleeve into the groove. The last step is to precision bore the sleeve to size. Only 0.4mm to remove so no room for error or we have to start again. Another shop made tool that works perfectly and the Scraper part is now locked in and ready to go back on the machine. Join our channel: We upload new videos every Friday at 5pm AEST!
