Video Description
If you have ever looked up at the night sky and felt interested about what is out there, then becoming an astronomer might be the right career path for you! In this video for kids, we discuss what an astronomer does, and what it takes to become one!   For your information, the word astronomy comes from a combination of two ancient Greek words: astron, which means star, and omos, which means arranging the stars. Sometimes, astronomers are referred to as astrophysicists. Astrophysicists focus more on the physics of space and astronomers focus on the objects in space.   Astronomers do not just look through a telescope. They help unlock the secrets of the cosmos, understand the nature of celestial bodies, and push the boundaries of human knowledge. Simply put, astronomers study the planets and stars to learn more about how our world works, and how life started here. They study the positions of stars, which helps ships and planes navigate safely, and they take pictures of space to study and share. So, if you are curious about the literal mysteries of the universe, you should think about becoming an astronomer!   We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about careers in astronomy!
