Living on One of Indonesia’s Most Active Volcanoes (Siau Island)

In the next episode of the Sabang to Merauke journey, I explore the life on One of Indonesia's most Active volcanos, Siau Island! 😲 After exploring the incredible underwater world of Manado and Bunaken in the previous episode, I continue my journey north to Siau Island, a remote and rarely visited island in Sulawesi. Siau Island is home to Mount Karangetang, also known as Api Siau, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. Towering over the northern part of the island, Karangetang constantly releases smoke and steam. A dangerous place to live, which I wanted to visit Siau Island! 🌋 While exploring the island, I met Pak Barik, who teaches us about the importance of the nutmeg 🌰. On Siau, nutmeg isn’t just an agricultural product—it’s a way of life. From caring for the trees to harvesting the spice, this is how many families support themselves. Through Pak Barik’s story, you really see how Siau’s economy and daily life are shaped by the land, passed down through generations who have learned to live with nature rather than against it. Deep in the forests of Burake, I was lucky enough to see the tiny and fascinating tarsius in its natural habitat. As night falls, the island slows down completely, revealing a sky filled with stars ✨🌌—a view that feels worlds away from Jakarta, where the city lights never fade. To end the journey, I travel to Pulau Mahoro 🏝️, a small island that truly feels like a real-life Jurassic Park. Crystal-clear blue water, white untouched sand, and total silence make it the perfect final stop on this Siau adventure.
