Video Description
Credits: NFL During a 2019 game for the Seattle Seahawks, punter Michael Dickson pulled off one of the weirdest and smartest plays in recent NFL history: a double punt. After fumbling the snap, Dickson quickly kicked the ball once to avoid being tackled, then chased it down and punted it a second time farther downfield. A lot of people assumed he instinctively did it because he grew up playing Australian rules football, where multiple kicks during a play are completely normal. But the truth was even crazier — Dickson actually knew the NFL rulebook well enough to realize the move was legal. NFL rules allow a second punt as long as the ball has never crossed the line of scrimmage before the second kick. Since his first kick stayed behind that line, he was allowed to punt again. So what looked like an “AFL habit” was actually a calculated heads-up play by someone who understood a loophole almost nobody else ever thinks about. . . .
