総務省は5年ごとに行う国勢調査の速報値を発表し、2025年の日本の人口は1億2305万人だったと明らかにしました。5年前の調査から309万7000人の減少で、少子高齢化の影響により前回の調査よりも減少幅はさらに拡大し、過去最大です。
都道府県別の人口では、東京都と沖縄県は増加した一方、その他45道府県は減少。神奈川県は戦後初めて、埼玉県、千葉県は1920年の調査開始以来初めて、減少に転じました。
人口が最も多い東京都は1424万人で、東京、神奈川、埼玉、千葉を含む東京圏の人口は3698万人となり、全国に占める割合は30.1%と初めて3割を超えました。
一方で、全国1719市町村のうち、9割以上の自治体で人口が減少しました。
また、日本の人口は、世界ではエチオピアに抜かれ12番目となりました。
