A major controversy has emerged around HDFC Bank after a report claimed that the bank allegedly paid ₹45 crore as “additional interest” to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, but showed it as marketing expenses. The bank’s Audit Committee reportedly ordered an internal vigilance investigation into payments made during FY 2024 and FY 2025. The matter has also raised questions after former HDFC Bank chairman Atanu Chakraborty resigned soon after the probe was ordered.
