A Red-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus indicus) accompanied by its chick in a grassy habitat at Wilderness Orchard, New Delhi, India. The adult bird is identifiable by its black breast, neck, and crown, contrasting white facial markings, and distinctive red wattles in front of the eyes. Its red bill with a black tip is also clearly visible. Nearby, the lapwing chick displays mottled brown plumage that provides effective camouflage against the ground. Red-wattled Lapwing chicks are precocial, meaning they can walk and forage shortly after hatching while remaining under parental supervision.
