Endangered Lion-Tailed Macaques in the rainforests of Western Ghats

The striking appearance and behaviour of the endangered Lion-tailed Macaque within the lush tropical rainforests of the Western Ghats. These rare primates are instantly recognisable by their glossy black fur, expressive dark faces, and the distinctive silver-white mane surrounding the head, giving them a lion-like appearance. Two macaques are seen resting together on the forest floor while one individual appears to forage among scattered organic debris. Another macaque is perched calmly on a moss-covered tree branch high in the canopy, quietly observing its surroundings beneath filtered forest light. Additional footage shows a macaque resting alertly among dense green foliage and epiphytic growth, displaying its characteristic mane and powerful limbs adapted for arboreal movement. Native to the rainforests of southern India, Lion-tailed Macaques spend most of their lives in the upper canopy, feeding on fruits, seeds, insects, and small invertebrates.
