Video Description
It all comes down to this… We’re completing the rebuild of our vintage Huron milling and drilling attachment and fitting it to our Zayer bed mill — but will it actually run? This is Part 3 of the series and it’s absolutely packed with hands-on action, precision assembly, and nerve-racking moments you don’t want to miss. We kick things off by cleaning all the original components and blasting years of old paint off the main housing. Once everything’s prepped, it’s time to replace all the bearings — including a stubborn needle race that needs a bit of TIG torch persuasion to come loose. With that sorted, we fire up our little oven to heat the new parts before carefully fitting them into place. It’s one of those jobs where you only get one shot at getting it right. Next up: reassembling the quill — and tackling the massive load-bearing spring that puts Kurtis’ strength to the test 💪 Once all the intricate internals are back in place, we get to the most satisfying moment of the whole rebuild: painting. Watching the bare metal get completely transformed with a fresh coat of paint is worth it on its own. But we’re not finished yet… The final components are installed, the new parts go in, and the attachment is officially rebuilt — and looking better than ever. All that’s left is to adapt it to fit the Zayer mill. We modify the drive arbor by parting off 35mm on the lathe, and drill and tap the drawbar to suit an eyebolt so we can lift the entire thing safely with our overhead crane. With the Zayer’s universal head rotated into position, we use our overhead crane to carefully lift the rebuilt attachment into place. Now for the moment of truth: Will it fit? Will it run? Did all that work actually pay off?
