Israeli army captures strategic castle in Lebanon in deepest incursion in 26 years

Israeli troops have captured a strategic mountaintop castle in Lebanon, in the deepest incursion into the country in more than a quarter-century. The Israeli military said Sunday it had captured the crusader-built Beaufort castle, near the city of Nabatieh, following days of airstrikes and intense fighting. It marks a major Israeli advance in its war on Hezbollah that began on March 2, when the militant group fired rockets into northern Israel two days after the U.S.-Israel war on Iran began. The Israeli advance also comes as Israel and Lebanon prepare to hold their next round of direct peace talks in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
