Many centuries ago, there was a philosopher who lived like the ultimate anti-consumerist: Diogenes. He owned almost nothing and lived in a barrel. But he may have been poor in possessions; he was rich in freedom. The less you need, the less you can lose. The less you can lose, the freer you are.
Today, we feel we need more: better clothes, nicer cars, the latest phone.
But Diogenes would say: let it go. Because freedom doesn’t come from having more but from needing less.
