The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced that the headline inflation rate or the rate of increase in the prices of goods and services in the Philippines slowed down to 6.8% this May 2026. According to National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, this deceleration from 7.2% in April 2026 was primarily driven by the decline in transport costs specifically for diesel and gasoline alongside a slight easing in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index. Nevertheless, a continuous increase in rice prices was still recorded. The agency also explained the state of inflation rates across the National Capital Region (NCR) and areas outside Metro Manila, as well as the impact of the twenty-peso rice (₱20/kilo) and volatile weather conditions on the country's purchasing power.
