Texas driver charged after Tesla Cybertruck sinks in lake during ‘Wade Mode’ test

A 70-year-old man in Texas was arrested on May 18 after allegedly driving his Tesla Cybertruck into a lake to test its “Wade Mode” feature. Wade Mode is one of the Cybertruck’s four off-road features. It supposedly works in shallow bodies of water, including rivers, but does not activate automatically. Local authorities said the truck “became disabled” shortly after the driver’s brief seafaring attempt, forcing the driver and his passenger to abandon the vehicle. The waterlogged Cybertruck had to be hoisted out of the lake by a crane later that night.
