Chinese Homegrown Open-source AI Models Evolve to Empower More Industries

Officials from the China Center for Information Industry Development, a technology research center in Beijing, says domestically developed open-source AI models have become a potent engine of economic growth for the country. Open-source LLM’s allow both big businesses and small firms alike to leverage the same technology so they can build their own applications from scratch. Think of it like a master chef revealing the ingredients and methods for cooking a secret recipe. That transparency levels the playing field to help solve a variety of real-world challenges. China's domestic open-source LLM’s have been downloaded more than 10 billion times worldwide. China now holds the largest number of AI patents globally, accounting for 60 percent of all applications. There are more than 6,200 AI firms in China. Official data shows that last year, China’s core AI industry generated approximately 175 billion U.S. dollars.
