?️ "Till" - A Mother's Warning That Couldn't Prevent a TRAGEDY! ??
A mother is preparing her son for a trip to Mississippi. She's scared. She has reason to be. "When you get down there—" He interrupts. "Not again, Mama. I've already been to Mississippi one time before, and you started a fight with another little boy." She corrects him: "He was picking on me." "You're in the right to stand up for yourself. But that's not what I'm talking about." Her voice drops. "They have a different set of rules for Negroes down there. Are you listening?" He nods. "Yes." She leans in. "You have to be extra careful with white people. You can't risk looking at them the wrong way." He promises: "I know. Be small down there. Like this." He shrinks himself. She smiles, but her eyes are full of fear. "You look like a movie star." He laughs. "What?" She hugs him. "See? Come on." He leaves. "Bye, bye, bye, bye." Then panic. "She getting the gun! She getting the gun! Yo, come on! Move! Get up! Get now! Move!" A mother's warning. A son's confidence. A tragedy that changed America. This is the story of Emmett Till.
