'Pilitan': Senate minority might skip session to avoid forced vote - Drilon

Former Senate President and ex-justice secretary Frank Drilon warns of a “state of Senate crisis” if the Senate minority decides not to show up in Monday’s session and avoid being forced to vote to allow teleconferencing for senators. Drilon said the Senate majority led by Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano is forcing a vote on the proposal to allow senators to vote “in absentia.” He said the proposal could sway all 11 minority senators to skip Monday’s session so that there will be no quorum. “You can’t call a session to order. [Stalemate]. Walang magagawang trabaho ang Senado, ‘yan ang problema natin ngayon. Hindi makakaurong ang Senado,” he said. The ex-Senate chief said allowing senators to vote in absentia could be a precursor to moves to stop the opening of Vice President Sara Duterte’s bank accounts in her impeachment trial.
