Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump are “constantly” in touch and will meet during the G7 summit in France next month, Canadian Industry Minister of Canada Melanie Joly said during a Thursday Q&A.
Joly’s remarks come just under five weeks ahead of the deadline for the revision of the Canada-US-Mexico (CUSMA) trade deal – something the U.S. and Canada are yet to plan negotiations for amid a strained relationship.
Mexico, on the other hand, has officials meeting with U.S. counterparts for the discussions this week.
Carney was in New York City on Thursday, meeting U.S. business leaders, CEOs and money managers with an aim to attract foreign investors to Canada.
Joly added that Canadian ministers will soon be deployed to the U.S. to meet with business leaders and stakeholders in the private sector.
