Police forces are facing new pressure to scrap diversity-based policing policies after the killing of Henry Nowak triggered accusations of “two-tier” treatment. Critics say the 18-year-old was failed when officers handcuffed him as he lay dying, while the man who stabbed him was initially treated as the victim after claiming racist abuse. The case has fuelled a wider political row about race action plans, DEI policies and whether officers are being pushed to treat suspects differently depending on ethnicity. Ministers now say police must act equally under the law, while Reform and the Conservatives are demanding tougher changes.
