Trying vegetarian Assamese thalis in Guwahati was honestly not something I expected to enjoy this much, especially at two completely different price points. One meal cost just two hundred rupees while the other was a much fancier experience inside one of the biggest malls in the city.
The cheaper thali at Michinga surprised me right from the first bite with comforting dal, soft bhaat, tasty saag and a papaya dish that genuinely had a meaty texture. The black rice kheer at the end completely sealed the deal for that meal. Later I headed to try the more premium thali where the bamboo shoot preparation easily became the standout item on the table.
Not every dish worked equally well at both places but that made the comparison even more fun. Assam continues to surprise me with how unique and comforting its food feels.
