A surprisingly advanced mechanical concept is hiding inside this LEGO build. The machine uses a working differential gear system to split power from a single motor into two separate actions, allowing the mechanism to “decide” where energy should go without any electronics or sensors.
As the scooping arms move forward, they operate freely while empty and collect the small balls from the tray below. Once a ball is captured, the added resistance slows the arm assembly down, causing the differential to redirect rotational force into the second output shaft connected to the rotating body and conveyor system.
That automatic power transfer is what makes the build so clever. Instead of relying on programming, switches, or multiple motors, the entire sequence is controlled purely through mechanical resistance and gear behavior, demonstrating the same core engineering principle used in real vehicle drivetrains and industrial automation systems.
