The ceramic cups in the video are coated with temperature sensitive pigments that react when cold sake touches the surface. While the cups appear mostly plain at room temperature, the artwork becomes visible as the temperature drops across the ceramic material.
As the chilled sake is poured into the cup, the thermochromic coating changes opacity and reveals the hidden cherry blossom design underneath. The effect creates the illusion that the tree is suddenly blooming in real time as the liquid spreads through the vessel.
These types of reactive cups are commonly used in Japanese drinkware and novelty ceramics to combine craftsmanship with interactive visual effects. The color changing process is completely passive, relying only on temperature differences rather than electronics, batteries, or mechanical parts.
