Disabled people have told the BBC they are being left in hospital for months after being declared medically fit to go home. Ravi Mehta, 36, was admitted for a routine appointment in September 2025. He says he has been fit to leave since then, but remains in hospital eight months later after his NHS-funded home support ended. He says he has been pressured to accept a care home instead of returning to live with his family. Lucinda Ritchie, 33, expected to go home after a long hospital stay, but was moved to a nursing home against her wishes. Within two days, her condition deteriorated and she was readmitted, where she remains. Both cases centre on disputes with local NHS integrated care boards over support outside hospital. Campaigners say some disabled people risk being pushed towards more restrictive care as budgets come under pressure.
