I Forgave You. I Just Don’t Want You Near Me Anymore.
One of the hardest things people accept is that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Some people think that once you stop being angry, you owe them closeness again. But forgiveness was never meant to erase memory, erase patterns, or erase what someone repeatedly showed you. Real forgiveness is internal. It is choosing not to carry resentment like a permanent weight. But trust is external, and trust is built through consistency, accountability, and change over time. Some people only become upset when you forgive them but still keep your distance because they never actually wanted healing. They wanted their old access back. They wanted comfort without accountability. And eventually you realize protecting your peace is not bitterness. It is wisdom earned through experience.
