Foreign affairs minister summons Israeli ambassador for “deplorable” treatment of flotilla activists

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is summoning Israel's ambassador to Canada over the “deplorable” treatment of civilians aboard a Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla this week. Among the dozens of activists intercepted near Cypress by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Monday, several are Canadians, Anand said. Footage shared by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir shows what Prime Minister Mark Carney called “abominable” treatment of the detainees. In some of the videos, Ben-Gvir can be seen and heard taunting activists, including calling them “terror supporters” while they were tied up, face down on the ground. The activists have said their goal was to deliver food to starving Palestinians.
