Two fascinating bird species commonly found across the Indian subcontinent within the green surroundings of Wilderness Orchard in New Delhi.
The first bird featured is the Rufous Treepie, a highly adaptable member of the crow family (Corvidae). It is easily recognized by its rusty-orange body, black head and neck, contrasting grey-and-black wings, and long bluish-grey tail tipped with black. Rufous Treepies are intelligent omnivorous birds that feed on fruits, seeds, nectar, insects, reptiles, and occasionally bird eggs. They are frequently seen in forests, scrublands, gardens, and urban green areas throughout India.
The video also features a Brown-headed Barbet, also known as the Large Green Barbet. This species displays a bright green body contrasted by a brown streaked head and breast, along with a thick reddish-orange bill and colorful bare skin around the eyes. Brown-headed Barbets are well known for their repetitive “kutroo… kutroo…” calls echoing through tropical afternoons. They are commonly found feeding on fruits and berries in forests, parks, and urban trees across India.
Together, these species highlight the rich bird diversity that continues to thrive within Delhi’s urban green habitats.
