Lacson blasts Marcoleta for condescending 'no legal background' remark vs Hontiveros

Risa Hontiveros has no legal background while he was explaining his proposal to allow absent senators to participate in Senate sessions through electronic voting. “Hindi monopoly ng isang abogado para maintindihan ang batas at rules. Ang pinanggalingan ni Senator Marcoleta hindi naman batas kundi Senate rules. Mali yung kanyang pinanggagalingan na parang ang tono niya condescending ba, na parang wala kang legal background wala kang karapatan makipagdebate sa akin sa rules,” Lacson said. “Ang mahirap sa kanya, nagmamarunong pero ang dami niyang salto. Sa mga sessions namin, sa mga committee hearings, ang mga sina-cite niyang mga batas, palpak. Hindi kami matututo sa kanya actually. Sabihin na natin abogado siya. AlisIn muna natin ang pagiging neophyte na senator kasi matagal na rin siyang congressman. Yan din halos nagkakapareho ang rules ng Lower House at Senado.” Lacson said Marcoleta’s proposal should be discussed by the Senate committee on rules instead of being rushed to a vote by the entire Senate. Teleconferencing in the Senate was allowed during the COVID pandemic when the entire country was on lockdown and all the senators were forced to stay at home. Allowing detained senators to participate in Senate sessions via teleconferencing would be too cumbersome, Lacson said, since it would require the Senate to coordinate with the BJMP to provide secure WiFi, laptop, tablet, cellphone or iPad.
