How far can the human body and mind go?
109 Hours (2017) follows elite Bulgarian runner Kiril “Disl” Nikolov, one of the country’s most accomplished endurance athletes, as he attempts to conquer one of the toughest challenges in European trail running.
The goal: break the legendary speed record on Bulgaria’s famous Kom–Emine route — a grueling 600 km mountain trail stretching across the Balkan Mountains with more than 16,000 meters of elevation gain.
After a heartbreaking first attempt that ended just 11 km before the finish, Kiril and his team — coach Natalia Velichkova and organizer Dimitar Dimitrov — refuse to let failure define them.
One year later they return for a second attempt.
Facing exhaustion, personal doubt, and intense public attention, Kiril must push beyond his limits to answer one crucial question:
Will he finally conquer the Kom–Emine route, or will the mountains defeat him once again?
This powerful endurance documentary captures the raw determination, teamwork, and resilience required to chase an extraordinary goal.
