Parts of Europe have been hit with an intense and unprecedented heat wave, with cities sweltering to temperatures in the mid-to-high 30s.
Most notably, heat records in both the United Kingdom and France have been smashed, harkening back to and renewing warnings from scientists of increasingly hot summers.
The U.K.’s national weather service, the Met Office, confirmed the record for hottest May day in history was broke on Monday, and again on Tuesday – at a whopping 35 degrees Celsius. France broke the same record Tuesday, with seven people dead as a result of the extreme heatwave.
And despite these alarming temperatures in the middle of spring, experts aren’t 100 per cent convinced they are a taste of what’s in store for the continent this summer.
