Lucknow’s old High Court area turned into a scene of chaos after bulldozers arrived to remove allegedly illegal lawyer chambers. Heavy police force was deployed as lawyers protested the demolition drive, raised slogans, and clashed with police. Some advocates even locked themselves inside their chambers to stop the action. The administration says the drive was carried out under Allahabad High Court orders to remove encroachments near the District and Sessions Court premises. However, protesting lawyers claim the court had ordered action against only 72 chambers, while around 240 structures were demolished. The controversy has now sparked a major face-off between the administration and lawyers in Uttar Pradesh’s capital. The copyright ownership in the video rests with India Today Group.
