US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has questioned Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the ongoing Iran-US ceasefire talks, saying Islamabad cannot be considered a trustworthy intermediary because of its long-standing hostility towards Israel and its closeness with Iran. Graham’s remarks came after Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan would never join the Abraham Accords if it goes against the country’s ideology. He also questioned Israel’s credibility and reiterated Pakistan’s traditional stand against recognising Israel. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump has urged several Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye, to join the Abraham Accords as part of a broader Middle East peace framework linked to a possible Iran deal.
