This talk explores multilingualism through a young learner’s experience of speaking multiple languages, including Sepedi, Zulu, English, and Chinese. Aixa shares how her “mixed-up” brain is not confused, but actually powerful, allowing her to communicate in different ways. Through simple and relatable examples, she shows that learning multiple languages can feel challenging, but it is a unique strength that helps us connect with more people and understand the world better. Aixa, a bright 7-year-old Grade 1 student from South Africa, speaks three languages: Sepedi, Zulu, and English. Her speech highlights the experience of growing up in a multilingual environment and the unique challenges of switching between languages. Aixa is passionate about learning and encourages everyone to embrace new challenges. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
