In China's grain depots, robots and automated systems are handling the most physically demanding tasks like loading, leveling and conducting safety patrols.
At the Renhe grain depot in eastern China's Hangzhou an automated grain removal system acts like a massive vacuum, sucking out the grains from the hold of a cargo ship, and depositing it directly into a sealed warehouse.
Another historically labor-intensive task – climbing to the top of the grain piles to rake and even out the mounds- is now handled by leveling robots.
The latest model features a sleeker design and substantially upgraded performance.
Quadruped robots meanwhile help patrol the grain depot grounds and can even remind humans to don protective gear if they're not wearing any.
China is the world's largest grain producer.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the country has produced more than 700 million tons of grain for the past two years.
