Ford government giving itself power to set “priorities” for police boards

The Ford government is giving itself the power to set the priorities of individual police service boards across Ontario. As part of the government’s spring omnibus justice legislation, the province is creating policies that would let the solicitor general set expectations for areas police boards should focus on. These priorities could be set for individual forces or province-wide. The solicitor general’s office insists the move won’t allow the government to direct law enforcement, but critics are concerned.
