During the 1950s and 1960s, custom Harley Davidson motorcycles often featured Westclox wind up clock gas caps mounted directly into the fuel tank. The chrome accessory combined practical timekeeping with the growing style culture of American motorcycles.
Inside the cap was a miniature mechanical clock powered by a hand wound spring movement. Riders could wind and adjust the clock from the top of the tank while the fuel cap still functioned normally underneath.
The accessories became especially popular on custom choppers and touring bikes during the golden era of postwar motorcycle customization. Original working examples are now considered collectible vintage Harley memorabilia because many were lost, damaged, or stopped functioning after decades of vibration and weather exposure.
