The World Health Organization (WHO) said Wednesday there have been 344 confirmed cases of Ebola and 60 deaths linked to the disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since the start of the outbreak.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said while the agency faces ongoing challenges related to its response to the outbreak, it is “catching up” as it confirms and rules out suspected cases.
The number of suspected cases of Ebola was reduced to 116 from 1,000 in the DRC, Ghebreyesus confirmed.
The WHO chief went on to say blanket travel restrictions imposed by countries like the United States have disrupted supply chains and hindered the response to the outbreak — instead recommending exit screening at airports, ports and border crossings.
