The Snowbirds Alumni Association has launched a campaign hoping to convince the Canadian government to keep the iconic aerial performers in the air as the team waits for new aircraft to arrive.
This comes after Defence Minister David McGuinty announced earlier this month that the team would be temporarily grounded at the end of the season as it awaits a fleet of CT-157 Siskin II aircraft.
The association welcomes the new aircraft to replace the aging CT-114 Tutor jets, but says grounding the team would be a mistake — arguing that it could result in a loss of expertise and an important symbol of Canadian pride.
Sania Ali has more on the campaign to keep the Snowbirds airborne.
