Norway's defence minister apologises to Malaysia over scrapped missile deal

Norway’s defence minister Tore O Sandvik apologised to Malaysia over the collapse of its deal for a naval missile system. Speaking to CNA at the Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 on Sunday (May 31), Mr Sandvik explained the decision was made due to “new security situation and restrictions” for sensitive military equipment from Norway. The two countries have fallen into a diplomatic dispute this month since Norway revoked export approvals for certain technologies.
