The Dushanzi-Kuqa Highway, known as the Duku Highway, stretches for 561 kilometers, running north to south through the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang. Along the way, travelers can enjoy rivers, snow-capped peaks, forests, and grasslands, which create a long landscape scroll where "within a single day you see four seasons, and the weather changes every ten miles." Known as the most beautiful self-driving route in China, this highway crosses snowy passes and ice-covered plateaus, and is closed for up to eight months each year.
