Rotary die cutting machines use soft polyurethane blankets as sacrificial surfaces beneath the cutting dies. These covers absorb repeated impacts from the blades while protecting the expensive steel cylinders underneath from damage.
To install a new cover, the flexible polyurethane sheet is carefully wrapped around the rotating drum and aligned edge to edge. The interlocking seam is then tapped together with a dead blow mallet until the joint fully locks into place and forms a nearly continuous surface.
Precise alignment is critical because even tiny gaps or raised edges can affect cutting accuracy, material tracking, and wear patterns at high operating speeds. Properly installed covers help maintain clean cuts and extend the lifespan of the entire die cutting system.
